A Wave of Success
This year’s theme, A Wave of Success, celebrates Birgit Nilsson’s extraordinary career and her international breakthrough. The exhibition highlights key milestones and jubilee years, including her first recording from 1936, her debut at the Royal Swedish Opera in 1946, and her U.S. debut in 1956
The Birgit Nilsson Museum is located in the childhood home of the world-famous soprano in Svenstad, nestled between Torekov and Båstad. Its permanent exhibition, refreshed each year with a new theme, brings her story to life—from her upbringing on the Bjäre Peninsula to performances on the world’s most prestigious opera stages. Visitors can enrich their experience with an audio guide available in Swedish, English, and German
In the main house, popular guided tours are offered, and advance booking is recommended.
The stable café offers lunches, hearty sandwiches and locally inspired pastries, prepared from ingredients sourced from the surrounding area, and featuring many recipes from Birgit Nilsson’s own collection. The café is full licensed.
Last year a special children’s trail was introduced alongside the exhibition and there is a play area in the courtyard, featuring traditional games.
The museum is also the starting point of a 9-kilometre round walk, inviting visitors to follow in Birgit Nilsson’s footsteps through the scenic, cultural landscape.
