Stipendium Presentation & Recital

Luthando Qave receives this year’s Birgit Nilsson Stipendium of SEK 250,000, supporting his continued artistic development.
“With his fresh and youthful voice, Luthando Qave displays a remarkable baritone quality,” said Bengt Hall, chairman of the Birgit Nilsson Stipendium Foundation, when this year’s recipient was announced.

The Birgit Nilsson Stipendium – established in 1969 – is awarded annually and forms part of the great soprano’s legacy.

The concert will be recorded by Swedish Radio P2 for later broadcast.

Luthando Qave
born and raised in South Africa and now a Swedish citizen, performs regularly on the stages of the Royal Swedish Opera, Gothenburg Opera, Malmö Opera and Norrlandsoperan. He studied at the University College of Opera in Stockholm and the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program in New York.

Magnus Svensson
collaborates with both today’s great singers and newly established stars. He is a regular soloist, chamber musician and accompanist at leading concert halls and festivals in Scandinavia, Europe and the United States.

Stefan Johansson
has worked extensively as both a critic and cultural commentator. From 1988 to 1995 he was head of Radioteatern, from 1997 to 2013 chief dramaturge at the Royal Swedish Opera, and from 2011 to 2017 chief dramaturge and director at Malmö Opera.
