Birgit Nilsson Master Class 2023

This year’s Master Class teaching has started and is led by court singer Anne Sofie von Otter in collaboration with pianist Elisabeth Boström and assistant pianist Jacob Lidåkra. The teaching takes place in Birgit Nilsson-salen, Ravinen, Båstad on August 6-9 at 11-16:30. Break 13-14. On Thursday 10 August at 18:00, a final concert will be held in the Birgit Nilsson hall. Participants

Julie Catherine Eggli, mezzo-soprano, was born in Lausanne, Switzerland. She has a Master from the Hochschule für Theater und Musik in Munich (2021-2023). Julie Catherine has participated in several Master Classes under the leadership of, among others, Véronique Gens, William Christie and Les Arts Florissants (both courses with French Baroque as a focus) and Barbara Hannigan. Julie Cathrine regularly appears as a lied singer and earlier this year was alto soloist in Mahler’s Das Lied von det Erde in Heidelberg and Mannheim.

Elin Eriksson, soprano, graduated from the Malmö Opera Academy in the spring of 2022 and debuted the same year at Malmö Opera as Berta in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. Not least Elin has a great musical interest in contemporary music and has premiered both contemporary opera and chamber music. In 2020, she premiered The Sleeping Girl by Ulrika Samuelsson and Nattens dyp by Kjell Perder. Elin has also been a soloist in several orchestral works and oratorios.

Linnea Nordenback, soprano, is educated at Malmö OperaAcademy (2022-2024), and before that at, among others, Malmö Academy of Music and Vadstena Singing and Piano Academy. Linnea was this summer’s soloist in Casanova at Kammaropera Syd, Ystads Teater and later this year will play Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni at Malmö Opera. Linnea is frequently employed as a soloist in the Öresund region with a repertoire that includes romances, oratorios and opera.

Marta de Castro, soprano from Spain, graduated in 2019 from the Accademie Villacroze in France. Before that, she studied singing in Vigo, Madrid and Barcelona. As a soloist, she has appeared at festivals in Tel Aviv and Salt Lake City and premiered the song cycle Music for Sit Poems by F.G Lorca by Isidro Maztegui. Marta has appeared in Dead Man Walking at the Teatro Real in Madrid, played roles such as Mimì in La Bohème, Micaëla in Carmen and Desdemona in Otello.

Karin Blom, soprano, has studied at the Vadstena Song and Piano Academy with romances as the main focus. Since 2019, she lives in Vienna where she studies for a Bachelor in singing, with opera as a focus while continuing to study the lied repertoire, especially stage romance, but she has also participated in several projects with newly written songs. Karin has, among other things, done Carmen in Carmen für Kinder at Bühne Baden and the Baltic Sea Festival’s production of Britten’s Noye’s Flydde.

Karl Söderström, baritone, has studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover (2018-2022) and the Vadstena Singing and Piano Academy (2016-2018). In 2022, Karl was a soloist in Stenhammar’s Flores and Blanzeflor with the NDR Radiophilharmonie, Belcore in Donizetti’s Kärleksdrycken at the Opern auf der Lande Niedersachsen and in Wolfgang Rihm’s Vigila with Ensemble Cantato Admont under the direction of Sylvain Cambreling at the Salzburger Festspiele.

Karin Mobacke, soprano, has studied at the chamber opera training at the School of Music and Opera at Mälardalen University. Karin made her opera debut in 2022 as Eritrea at the Vadstena Academy in the production of Carlo Francesco Pollarolo’s baroque opera Il colore fa la Regina. Among solo performances, it can be mentioned that in 2023 she participated in Naumann’s Gustav Wasa at Konserthuset Stockholm.

Annika Sandberg, soprano, completed her studies at the Academy of Opera in Stockholm in 2019 and in 2022 she took a Master’s in lied and oratorio at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Annika made her international opera debut as Martha, the title role in von Flottor’s opera at Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg in 2019. In 2015, she participated in the premiere of Mats Larsson Gothe’s opera Silverfågeln in Vattnäs Konsertlada. As a soloist, she has been heard in places like Salzburg and Dresden.
