History

A long time ago, an exciting sailor’s tale was told about The Flying Dutchman. It is about a captain who made a foolish promise during a storm – and was therefore condemned to sail the seas forever. He is only allowed to go ashore occasionally, and longs to be free from the curse.

In the opera, we meet Senta, a brave and imaginative girl who knows the story of the lonely captain. She wants to help him and believes that friendship, courage and loyalty can break the curse. With stormy music, the roar of the sea and strong emotions, Wagner tells a tale of fear, hope and daring to believe in good.

In the children’s performance, the story ends happily.
