Star to Star – a conversation about Birgit and Zarah

Birgit Nilsson (1918–2005) and Zarah Leander (1907–1981) admired one another and met on several occasions, though they also felt a certain apprehension towards each other. What similarities and differences connected these fascinating women? How do life’s choices shape an artist’s career, and what consequences can they have? A conversation abut the triumphs and challenges of stardom, interwoven with music.

Mattias Enn
made his debut in 1993 at Mosebacke in a Zarah Leander show. Known for interpretations of Karl Gerhard, amongst others, he has recorded 18 albums. Entertainment historian, language teacher and authorised Stockholm guide, active at the Birgit Nilsson Museum since 2014.

Anelia Kadieva Jonsson
is a trained director who has worked in the opera world for over 30 years, both in Sweden and Europe. She wrote the libretto for The Snow Queen (Malmö Opera, Royal Swedish Opera), has been editor of SVT’s Kontrapunkt and a presenter on SR P2. From the 2025/26 season she is dramaturge at Gothenburg Opera.
