Birgit Nilsson Prize Ceremony 2022

In a special musical celebration the 2022 Birgit Nilsson Prize is awarded to the world-famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma. The Birgit Nilsson Prize Ceremony 2022, which takes place on October 18 in the presence of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, features performances by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Swedish Opera Choir and Radio Choir.

Joining them on stage are young soloists, cellist Amalie Stalheim and Birgit Nilsson Stipendium singers Johanna Wallroth and Emma Sventelius among others. The Prize Ceremony will be live streamed free of charge on Konserthuset Play until November 17, 2022. Tickets to the Prize Ceremony are also available.

During his visit to Sweden Yo-Yo Ma also performs in concert with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Alan Gilbert on October 16. In the concert the Birgit Nilsson Prize laureate is the soloist in Dvoráks beloved Cello concerto. Yo-Yo Ma will also meet a specially invited group of young cellists from across the country for a personal talk about life and music.
