Birgit Nilsson Festival 2026

This year’s festival presents a vibrant week of opera, concerts, courses, artist talks, and sing-alongs, culminating in a grand finale – Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer. World-class soloists, the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra and a chorus of local singers, join forces for an open-air concert performance at Båstad’s Tennis Stadium – just a stone’s throw from the Kattegat and in harmony with the festival’s theme, “Sea”.

Throughout the festival week, international guests singers perform alongside acclaimed Swedish artists, whilst the festival also keeps a keen eye on promising, young talent, in keeping with Birgit Nilsson’s own vision. Meanwhile, exhibitions about the legendary soprano’s career are on display at the Birgit Nilsson Museum, where this year’s theme is “A Wave of Success”.

The Birgit Nilsson Festival celebrates the legacy of one of the world’s greatest opera singers and enriches the cultural and musical life of the Bjäre Peninsula. The festival is organised by the Birgit Nilsson Foundation.
