Festival 2026
The Birgit Nilsson Festival 2026 will take place from 2–8 August.
Featuring up to 20 events, the 2026 festival culminates in an open-air performance of Richard Wagner’s dramatic and romantic opera The Flying Dutchman at the Tennis Stadium in Båstad.
The week will offer everything from Stipendium recital to master classes, concerts, talks, musical encounters, films and sing-alongs for the whole family!
The program for this year’s festival will be presented around mid-February.

The Flying Dutchman
The opera is based on a maritime legend about a ship whose crew is doomed to sail the seas forever… In addition to the Dutchman, the young woman Senta is at the center of the plot.
A staged outdoor production with world-class artists, 100 choir singers and the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra with the Swedish soprano Elisabet Strid in the role of Senta.
