The Birgit Nilsson days (August 8-13 and for the fifth year in a row) began with a Master Class for promising opera singers led by the court singer Hillevi Martinpelto with Elisabeth Boström and Jacob Lidåkra as pianists. The work culminated in a closing concert on August 11 in the Birgit Nilsson hall at the Ravinen cultural center.
This year’s Birgit Nilsson scholarship recipient – the lyrical-dramatic soprano Cornelia Beskow – received her scholarship of SEK 200,000 on August 12, a traditional concert in Västra Karup’s church where Birgit herself sang more years than at the Royal Opera, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and in Vienna.
The end of the Birgit Nilsson days provided an opera gala with hundreds of participants, international world artists and Mark Levengood as speaker. Now you can experience this year’s concerts again!
