As part of the Birgit Nilsson Festival 2025, the Birgit Nilsson Master Class will be held, featuring Swedish star soprano Camilla Tilling, in collaboration with pianists Annika Bjelk and Jacob Lidåkra, as well as assistant director Katarina Sörenson from Malmö Opera. The repertoire consists of arias and romances with a focus on storytelling, often themed around nature and vegetation, culminating in a final concert at Ravinen on Thursday, August 7, at 3:00 PM.
On Saturday, August 2, participants are welcomed to the Birgit Nilsson Museum in Svenstad for an inspiring introduction to the week’s program. The visit includes a guided tour of Birgit Nilsson’s childhood home and exhibition. The Birgit Nilsson Society will offer coffee/tea and cake upon arrival, and the evening will conclude with a joint dinner at the museum’s Stable Café at 6:30 PM.

August 2 – 9
August 2: Arrival around 2:00 PM, introduction at the Birgit Nilsson Museum.
August 3 – 6: Teaching sessions.
August 7: Dress rehearsal and final concert, including an invitation to the dress rehearsal of Aida at the Center Court, Hotel Skansen, Båstad.
Throughout the week, participants will also attend lectures, concerts, and the Birgit Nilsson Scholarship Concert.
August 9: Check-out at 11:00 AM.

The preliminary repertoire list should include:
Three arias and three art songs, preferably in different languages and of varied character. Upon confirmation of active participation, singers will receive feedback on their repertoire and may be asked to make adjustments or additions.
Application deadline:
April 1: Last date to submit applications.
April 15: Admission decisions announced, along with repertoire feedback.
Target group:
Professional singers and advanced vocal students at music and opera academies (or equivalent).
Maximum 8 active participants.
Course fee: 12 000 SEK
Includes breakfast, lunch and accommodation in single rooms at Apelrydsskolan, Båstad, from August 2 – 9. Lodging is hostel standard, with private bathroom and shower.
May 1: A non-refundable deposit of 2 000 SEK is due.
June 1: The remaining 10 000 SEK must be paid.
Additional information:
Instruction will be conducted in Swedish and, if needed, English.
One full day of teaching, as well as the final concert, will be recorded, and participants will have the option to receive their own recording.
The master class actively engages with social media.
