Birgit Nilsson Prize 2025 awarded to the Festival d\u2019Aix-en-Provence\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The world\u2019s largest classical music prize honours the Festival d\u2019Aix-en-Provence for outstanding artistic acheievements, giving special recognition to the 2021 premiere of Kaija Saariaho\u2019s opera \u201cInnocence\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>

The prestigious French Opera Festival, became the first festival to receive the Prize, presented on October 21 by His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf at Konserthuset Stockholm. The musical celebrations were accompanied by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Swedish Opera Chorus and soloists Peter Mattei, Matilda Sterby and Daniel Johansson, under the direction of Susanna M\u00e4lkki. Broadcast live, the Prize Ceremony is available to watch worldwide on Konserthuset Play<\/a>.<\/p>

Announcing the Prize on May 21, President of the Birgit Nilsson Stiftelsen\u00a0Susanne Ryd\u00e9n,<\/strong>\u00a0said: \u201cThe Board is proud to honour the Festival d\u2019Aix-en-Provence with the 2025 Birgit Nilsson Prize for its outstanding artistic achievements and commitment to developing and commissioning new opera productions. With its forward-looking and multi-faceted programming the Festival has produced key milestones in contemporary masterpieces which have perpetuated the art form and added an important chapter to music history. Special recognition is given to the production of\u00a0Kaija Saariaho\u2019s opera Innocence<\/strong>, premiered at the Festival D\u2019Aix-en-Provence in 2021.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

\u201cToday is both a moment of celebration and deep sadness, as the world mourns the loss of\u00a0Pierre Audi<\/strong>\u00a0who died suddenly just a few weeks before today\u2019s announcement. The Birgit Nilsson Prize is the largest prize in classical music, awarded approximately every three years to an active artist or institution who has contributed an important chapter to music history.<\/strong><\/p>

The Prize serves not only as a recognition of the recipients’ outstanding achievements, but as a testament to the importance of passion and dedication in musical life and an incentive for younger musicians as they embark on their careers.\u00a0<\/p>
